Pallet Problems

Here's an interesting problem I had to face today. I received an e-mail today from the district maintenance and grounds supervisor this morning.

I do have to agree, the pallets do pose a bit of an eyesore, especially if you don't understand what they will become. In my mind, I see a gold mine of resources. I mean look at all that valuable wood!

It is also a bit of a safety hazard since the boards have nails in them. Just so you know, all the boards that have nails in them are stacked with the nail side facing the building. There is a can behind the boards in this photo that contains all the nails I pulled off a couple of the boards.

No worries, I have some things going for me. First, I wrote a grant which included the need for gathering pallets. The person who sent me the e-mail signed the grant (along with quite a few other district leaders -whew!). Second, the principal supports this project and knows what I am doing. Third, I did place the boards in a remote (more out of the way than secluded since we are an elementary school in the middle of town) location that is off-limits to students.

I did write back to let the supervisor know that I plan to dismantle the pallets by the end of the week (I think the neighbors might have complained).
